The Warrick County healthy amenities list continues to grow with the launch of The Warrick Trails, a 30-mile trail network connecting the community.
NEWBURGH, IND. (May 10, 2017) The non-profit volunteer group Warrick Trails announced detailed plans for the addition of six new trail segments throughout Newburgh and Warrick County. The goal of the completed project is to improve the health, wellness, and quality of life for all residents and visitors of Warrick County. The Warrick Trails Network will add safe, healthy and environmentally friendly connectivity between area parks, neighborhoods, schools, and businesses, while providing new ways to both commute and recreate in Warrick County.
The project will be broken into six segments and will connect to existing trails and bike lanes within Warrick County. In addition, six trailheads featuring pavilions, parking, and amenities will be placed in strategic locations along the trails. Warrick Trails will also be using a first of its kind agreement with the Indiana Department of Transportation to add bicycle friendly shared roadways to portions of state roads including Indiana State Highways 261, 66, 62 and 61. The project is set to be completed by 2019. Details, updates and a map of the project can be found at WarrickTrails.org
“Warrick Trails has been able to take concepts about improving community wellness and quality of life via trails and connectivity from an idea to reality,” said Steve Roelle, Warrick Trails Board Member. “Access to open space, parks and trails continues to be high on the list of what people are looking for in a community. These trails will serve as an incentive to retain residents and attract and keep potential employees to the area.”
Total cost of the trail project is $10 million with $2 million in funding from the Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority through the State of Indiana’s Regional Cities Initiative announced in April. The remainder of funds will be raised by Warrick Trails via corporate partners, grants, community donations, and through events such as The Run Victoria 2017
. The 5k and 10k run and walk will take place on Saturday, May 27 at Victoria National Golf course. Registration for the event can be found on www.WarrickTrails.org
