The Southern Indiana Japanese School

  • Elementary through high school
  • Opened in 1997 at the request of Japanese businesses locating in Southwest Indiana
  • Enables the school-age children of Japanese workers to attend local schools with American peers on weekdays and also study from their Japanese textbooks on Saturdays, in order to integrate smoothly into Japanese school life when they return to Japan
  • Classes are held on Saturdays nearly year-round and on some Fridays during the summer
  • Enrollment may be open to any local child with adequate Japanese language skills for participation in classroom activities
