Blueprint for Success
As most of you are aware, Garner Economics working with Newmark Knight Frank and Applied Marketing have completed the strategic report, A Blueprint for Success: A Master Plan for Economic Redevelopment. The final recommendations along with metrics, that is how we will measure success, will be unveiled to the Coalition Board of Directors on August 19. The recommendations are categorized under three areas of opportunity: product marketing – the marketing and selling of Southwest Indiana; product improvement – infrastructure and quality of place improvements; and, organizational – improvements to the Coalition’s structure such as staffing, budget and governance for effective service delivery.

Marketing Southwest Indiana
Part of the Coalition’s on-going marketing efforts is to sell Southwest Indiana to key business sectors so as to increase potential deal flow that ultimately leads to new investment. Our latest campaign illustrates what is great about Southwest Indiana – our ability to make things and our excellent workforce. This campaign will be rolled out during the Center for Automotive Research’s Management Briefing Seminars in Michigan where keydecision-makers from the North American automotive industry gather to hear the latest in trends and research. The event is billed as the auto industry’s most influential management conference in North America and with speakers from Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Volkswagen you can understand why.

Community Development Updates
The Coalition congratulates the Town of Patoka and the Town of Poseyville on recent grants awarded by Lt. Governor Becky Skillman on behalf of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The Town of Patoka was awarded $600,000 to fund a water infrastructure improvement project and the Town of Poseyville was awarded $150,000 to fund the purchase of a rescue truck. Both projects vital to the well-being of each community's residents.

Coalition Conducts Seminar to Educate on Tax Changes
The Coalition's recent seminar "Win, Lose, or Draw - How the 2011 legislative changes will impact economic development and Southwest Indiana" was well attended with all four counties being represented. Thank you to Loren Matthes with H.J. Umbaugh & Associates, Thomas Pitman with Barnes & Thornburg and moderator Marco DeLucio of Ziemer, Stayman, Weitzel & Shoulders for sharing their expertise on the changes in tax legislation. Great Week for Southwest Indiana
Anytime one can announce an expansion of a key existing business or broadcast a new company coming to a community, it has been a good day. But, to make back-to-back announcements of Berry Plastics expanding their Evansville operation and North American Lighting becoming the first tenant in the North Warrick Industrial Park makes for a very good week indeed.

Community Development Keeps on Growing
Over $58 million and counting as the Community Development division of the Coalition continues to bring value every week to the Southwest Indiana communities we serve; and, this week was no exception as Elberfeld was awarded a $50,000 planning grant to develop a master plan for their utilities. Kudos goes to Jeff Pruitt for his efforts in spearheading this important infrastructure project for Elberfeld and northern Warrick County.

Automotive Sector on the Move
The automotive sector in Indiana is getting hotter than the early summer temperatures as Honda is gearing up to hire an additional 1,000 workers for its Greensburg plant; and, the communities of Kokomo and Marion announced the formation of the Midwest Automotive Loop – a central Indiana supplier corridor.

Back Home Again (and missed the e-coli outbreak)
As a tie-in with the City of Evansville’s anniversary sister-city celebration with Osnabruck, Germany, the Coalition took advantage of the opportunity and travelled to Germany from May 7 through 15 meeting with various German companies in transportation, fluid management and solar industries. Some of the meetings were to introduce Southwest Indiana as a possible location and others were with companies who are considering Indiana for new investment.
