Occasionally, an article is published that foretells of great economic and cultural change in the near future. One such article was in the January/February 2010 edition of Foreign Policy magazine. According to the author, not only will China’s share of the global GDP be 40%, higher than that of the U.S. and European Union combined, its per capita income is estimated to reach $85,000 per year, which will be slightly less than the U.S. but more than the European Union, Japan or India.
Our economic development strategies need to take into account global market forces more than ever before. No longer will we find ourselves competing with just Indianapolis or Louisville for economic investment but increasingly with Asia as an economic shift looks to occur.
